Twin Lakes Adventures (Part 2)

Brand Photoshoots, Outdoor Industry, Photography Locations, WanderlustRebecca BlantonComment

Here are some more photos from my late July visit to Twin Lakes Adventures. On this trip, I stayed in a campervan, but next time, I'll be returning in my beloved 4Runner!

I can't recommend this spot enough for kayaking in Colorado. While Denver-area reservoirs are convenient for swimming and close to the city, they don’t compare to the alpine beauty of Twin Lakes.

And some parts of Colorado can be hard to access (think Telluride and Lake City), so Twin Lakes is ideally situated. It’s centrally located between Aspen, Leadville, Crested Butte, and Buena Vista. I've also visited Grand Lake, but in my opinion, Twin Lakes offers a more captivating backdrop and boasts even more stunning water hues.

I recently had the opportunity to capture some photos for a friend who just purchased a canoe and kayak rental company from a retiring owner. This summer marked her first season in business, and I was lucky enough to visit at the end of July to see everything firsthand. During my two-day visit, I documented the beautiful setting and exciting atmosphere. Plans are already in the works to elevate the guest experience even further!

The weather couldn’t have been more perfect. While much of Colorado has been hit with August thunderstorms, I managed to visit during a drier, sunnier window, avoiding major monsoons. For that, I am incredibly grateful!

Check out more details here.

Why Summer is the Best Time for Photography in Colorado

Photography Locations, Wanderlust, Outdoor IndustryRebecca Blanton2 Comments

When it comes to capturing stunning landscapes and vibrant portraits, summer in Colorado offers a perfect backdrop. With its breathtaking scenery, pleasant weather, and abundance of natural light, the summer season provides photographers with ideal conditions to create stunning images. Here’s why summer is the best time for photography in Colorado.

1. Spectacular Landscapes

Colorado is renowned for its diverse and picturesque landscapes. During the summer, the state comes alive with lush greenery, colorful wildflowers, and clear blue skies. Photographers can capture the grandeur of the Rocky Mountains, the serene beauty of alpine lakes, and the vibrant hues of wildflower meadows. Popular locations like Rocky Mountain National Park, Maroon Bells, and the Garden of the Gods offer iconic views that are perfect for both landscape and portrait photography.

2. Longer Days and Golden Hours

One of the biggest advantages of summer photography in Colorado is the extended daylight hours. With longer days, photographers have more time to explore and capture the perfect shot. The early mornings and late evenings, known as the golden hours, provide soft, warm light that enhances the beauty of any subject. The magical quality of the golden hour light can transform an ordinary scene into a breathtaking image.

3. Ideal Weather Conditions

Summer in Colorado typically brings pleasant and stable weather conditions. With fewer storms and milder temperatures, photographers can spend more time outdoors without worrying about sudden weather changes. The clear skies and consistent light make it easier to plan and execute photoshoots, whether you’re capturing a family portrait, an adventurous engagement session, or a serene landscape.

4. Vibrant Wildlife and Flora

Summer is the season when Colorado’s wildlife and flora are at their peak. Photographers have the opportunity to capture images of blooming wildflowers, lush forests, and an array of wildlife in their natural habitats. From elk grazing in open meadows to hummingbirds flitting among flowers, the abundance of life adds dynamic elements to nature photography.

5. Outdoor Activities and Events

Colorado is a hub of outdoor activities and events during the summer. From hiking and mountain biking to music festivals and outdoor markets, there are countless opportunities to capture the essence of Colorado’s vibrant culture and active lifestyle. Candid shots of people enjoying the outdoors, participating in festivals, or exploring scenic trails can add a lively and authentic touch to your photography portfolio.

6. Perfect Conditions for Night Photography

Summer nights in Colorado offer perfect conditions for night photography. With clear skies and minimal light pollution in many areas, photographers can capture stunning images of the Milky Way, star trails, and even the occasional meteor shower. Locations like Great Sand Dunes National Park and State Forest State Park provide dark skies that are ideal for astrophotography.

7. Flexibility for Travel and Exploration

The summer season allows for easier travel and exploration of Colorado’s diverse landscapes. Many high-altitude roads and trails that are inaccessible during winter open up, giving photographers access to remote and breathtaking locations. Whether you’re planning a road trip through the San Juan Mountains or a hike to a secluded alpine lake, summer provides the flexibility to explore and capture the beauty of Colorado.

Summer in Colorado is a photographer’s paradise. With its spectacular landscapes, ideal weather conditions, vibrant wildlife, and endless opportunities for outdoor activities, the season offers the perfect environment for capturing stunning images. Whether you’re a professional photographer or an enthusiast, summer in Colorado provides the ideal backdrop to elevate your photography.

The Importance of Tropical Rainforests for Outdoor Brand Photoshoots

Brand Photoshoots, Outdoor Industry, Products, WanderlustRebecca BlantonComment

In the realm of outdoor and adventure gear marketing, the setting of a photoshoot can profoundly influence how a product is perceived. Tropical rainforests, with their lush landscapes and inherent sense of adventure, provide an exceptional backdrop for showcasing outdoor brands. Here’s why these vibrant ecosystems are an ideal choice for your next outdoor brand photoshoot.

1. Unmatched Natural Beauty

Tropical rainforests offer a unique and visually stunning environment that can significantly enhance the aesthetic appeal of any product. The dense foliage, vibrant flora, and mysterious ambiance not only create captivating visuals but also highlight the ruggedness and versatility of outdoor gear. Whether it’s hiking boots, rain gear, or camping equipment, showcasing these products against the backdrop of a tropical rainforest can convey their effectiveness in challenging environments.

2. Association with Adventure and Exploration

The very essence of tropical rainforests speaks to adventure and exploration—themes that resonate deeply with outdoor enthusiasts. Utilizing this setting can align your brand with these values, appealing to consumers who crave adventure and seek products that support their exploratory lifestyles. Photoshoots in these environments suggest that your products are capable of supporting users in the most remote and untamed settings, thereby enhancing brand credibility.

3. Emphasis on Sustainability and Eco-consciousness

As awareness of environmental issues increases, consumers are more inclined towards brands that demonstrate a commitment to sustainability. Tropical rainforests are often seen as symbols of ecological health and biodiversity conservation. By conducting photoshoots in these locations—while ensuring environmentally responsible practices—you can align your brand with these eco-friendly values. This not only helps to attract a more environmentally conscious consumer base but also positions your brand as a champion for conservation.

4. Dynamic and Versatile Visual Content

The diversity of textures and light in tropical rainforests provides a dynamic setting for photographers. The interplay of light filtering through the dense canopy offers a natural diffusion that can make product images appear softer and more appealing. Additionally, the variety of colors and natural patterns can help your products stand out, ensuring that the visual content is both eye-catching and memorable.

5. Global Appeal

Tropical rainforests are found across many parts of the world, from Central and South America to Southeast Asia and Africa. They evoke a sense of global adventure that can appeal to a wide audience. Showcasing your products in such universally recognized and exotic locations can help elevate your brand’s international appeal, making it attractive to a global market.

Choosing tropical rainforests as the setting for your outdoor brand photoshoots offers numerous benefits, from enhancing the visual appeal of your products to aligning your brand with values of adventure and sustainability. These lush landscapes not only serve as a stunning backdrop but also reinforce the functionality and durability of outdoor gear, making them an ideal choice for brands looking to make a strong impression in the competitive outdoor market.

If your brand is ready to explore the benefits of a tropical rainforest photoshoot, ensure that you choose locations responsibly and commit to practices that respect and preserve these natural wonders. Embrace the adventure that awaits in the heart of the rainforest, and let your products shine in the most inspiring of environments.

Showcasing Sustainability: A Patagonia Hat Photoshoot in the Great Outdoors

Wanderlust, Products, Outdoor Industry, Brand PhotoshootsRebecca BlantonComment

In the world of outdoor apparel, where style meets sustainability, few brands capture the essence of eco-conscious adventuring as well as Patagonia. Recently, I had the opportunity to highlight this iconic brand through a photoshoot featuring one of their signature hats. Set against the backdrop of the rugged landscapes that inspire the brand's ethos, this photoshoot not only showcases the product but also embodies the spirit of environmental stewardship and adventure.

The Setting: Perfect for Patagonia

Choosing the right location was crucial for this photoshoot. We aimed for a setting that reflects Patagonia’s commitment to nature and the outdoors. The chosen location—a serene, verdant trail known for its natural beauty and sustainability efforts—complemented the Patagonia brand perfectly. The lush greenery and soft, natural lighting emphasized the hat’s design and durability, ideal for nature enthusiasts who value both function and form.

Capturing the Spirit of Adventure

Patagonia products are designed for the adventurous at heart, and this photoshoot was all about capturing that spirit. Our model, an avid hiker and environmental advocate, perfectly embodied the brand's target customer. Wearing the Patagonia hat, she explored the terrain, the hat becoming a part of her essential hiking gear. Each image captured her engaging actively with the environment, from navigating rocky paths to pausing and appreciating the panoramic views, illustrating the hat’s role in her exploration journey.

Focus on Sustainability

A key aspect of this photoshoot was to highlight the sustainability features of the Patagonia hat. Known for using recycled materials and ethical production practices, Patagonia is a leader in sustainable fashion. During the shoot, we focused on these elements, capturing close-ups of the material and design that speak to these eco-friendly attributes.

Engaging Content for Outdoor Enthusiasts

This photoshoot not only provided stunning visuals but also engaging content tailored for outdoor enthusiasts and eco-conscious consumers. The final images are used across various platforms, including social media, where they inspire interaction and discussion among a community committed to sustainability.

A Match Made in the Great Outdoors

Why the Colorado Rocky Mountain Foothills Are Perfect for Outdoor Branding Photoshoots

Brand Photoshoots, Health & Wellness, Modeling Portfolios, Outdoor Industry, Personal Branding, Photography Locations, Products, WanderlustRebecca BlantonComment

When it comes to outdoor branding, the setting of your photoshoot can dramatically impact how your brand is perceived. For businesses in the outdoor, adventure, and eco-friendly industries, the Colorado Rocky Mountain foothills offer an ideal backdrop that combines stunning natural beauty with a spirit of adventure. Here’s why this region should be your first choice for an outdoor branding photoshoot, especially if you are looking to attract an audience that values authenticity and an active lifestyle.

Unmatched Natural Beauty

The foothills of the Colorado Rockies boast some of the most scenic landscapes in North America. From rolling hills dotted with wildflowers to rugged terrain that challenges even the most experienced adventurers, this area provides a variety of natural settings in just a short drive from major urban centers like Denver and Boulder. This accessibility allows for diverse photo opportunities that can cater to a range of outdoor brands—from hiking and camping gear to eco-conscious apparel.

Ideal Lighting Conditions

The unique geographical features of the Colorado foothills offer spectacular lighting, especially during the golden hours of sunrise and sunset. The interplay of light and shadow across the mountains creates a dynamic and dramatic effect that can bring any product to life. For photographers and brands, this means capturing images that are not only striking but also deeply evocative of the outdoor lifestyle that their customers crave.

Seasonal Diversity

One of the most significant advantages of the Colorado foothills is the distinct four-season climate, which allows brands to showcase their products in various seasonal settings. Whether it’s snow-covered landscapes in the winter, lush greenery in the spring, warm summer sun, or the fiery colors of fall, each season lends a unique vibe to your branding imagery. This seasonal diversity can help outdoor brands create a year-round narrative that keeps their content fresh and engaging.

Connection to Outdoor Lifestyle

The Colorado foothills are synonymous with an active, outdoor lifestyle. Locals and visitors alike flock to this region for everything from mountain biking and trail running to rock climbing and river rafting. Featuring your products in this context not only enhances their appeal but also aligns your brand with the values of environmental stewardship and adventure that are deeply ingrained in the local culture.

For brands that thrive on the essence of the great outdoors, the Colorado Rocky Mountain foothills offer more than just a beautiful backdrop—they provide a compelling, authentic setting that resonates with your target audience. If you are a business in the outdoor, adventure, or eco-friendly sector, consider capturing your next branding photoshoot against the breathtaking landscapes of the Colorado foothills to truly convey the spirit of your brand.

Why the Olympic Peninsula Is the Ideal Backdrop for Outdoor Brand Photoshoots

Wanderlust, Brand Photoshoots, Outdoor Industry, Photography Locations, ProductsRebecca BlantonComment

For brands dedicated to outdoor gear, apparel, and adventure, finding the perfect setting for a photoshoot is crucial in conveying authenticity and connection to nature. The Olympic Peninsula, with its stunning Olympic National Park, provides an unparalleled backdrop for any outdoor brand looking to showcase its products in an environment that embodies the spirit of adventure and exploration. Here’s why this region is a top choice for outdoor brand photoshoots, as illustrated by my recent visit and the compelling images we captured.

1. Diverse Natural Landscapes

The Olympic Peninsula offers an incredibly diverse range of natural landscapes within its expanse. From the rugged Pacific coastline dotted with tide pools and driftwood to the lush, moss-covered rainforests and the majestic peaks of the Olympic Mountains, this area allows for a variety of outdoor settings that can dramatically enhance any product’s appeal. Each of these landscapes brings its own unique flavor and mood, providing numerous options for creative storytelling and product showcasing.

2. Evocative and Dramatic Scenery

The dramatic scenery of the Olympic Peninsula makes it a visually captivating location for photoshoots. Whether it’s the misty mornings at Lake Crescent that evoke a sense of mystery and tranquility, or the striking vistas from Hurricane Ridge that scream adventure, the natural beauty of the area is inherently evocative. This scenery not only enhances the visual appeal of the photographs but also helps to convey the emotions that brands want associated with their products.

3. Secluded and Pristine Environments

Unlike more crowded national parks and outdoor spaces, many areas of the Olympic Peninsula are less trafficked, offering more secluded settings for photoshoots. This seclusion is perfect for brands looking to create imagery that suggests exclusive interaction with nature. Moreover, the pristine condition of these environments underscores the importance of conservation and sustainability, values that are increasingly important to both brands and consumers.

4. Variable Lighting Conditions

The Olympic Peninsula's variable weather and lighting conditions present unique opportunities for photography. The interplay of light and shadow, especially in the forests and along the coast, can add depth and texture to photographs. The soft, diffused light on cloudy days is ideal for highlighting colors and details, while the occasional sunbreaks through the canopy create dynamic contrasts that can make a product pop.

5. Connection to Outdoor Lifestyle

Shooting in a location known for its outdoor activities, such as hiking, kayaking, and climbing, naturally aligns a brand with these lifestyles. It allows the imagery to resonate more deeply with target audiences who are passionate about the outdoors. Featuring products in the actual environments they’re designed for not only authenticates the brand’s identity but also inspires consumers to imagine themselves using these products in their own adventures.

The Olympic Peninsula offers more than just a backdrop; it provides a narrative setting that can bring outdoor brands to life. My recent photoshoot at Olympic National Park showcased how effectively this location can communicate brand values, enhance product appeal, and attract the adventure-seeking consumer. Scroll below to see examples from this photoshoot and discover how the Olympic Peninsula could be the setting for your next outdoor brand campaign.
